Alternative Tourism
For some, a vacation signifies an opportunity to relax; nevertheless, a spectacular landscape, stretching from the cape of Araxos to Kyllini, awaits the visitor who seeks alternative ways to spend a vacation and yearns to get acquainted with the habitats and wetlands of the area.
Nearby, one finds the lagoon of Kotychi, which is the most important wetland of the Peloponnese, as well as the forest of Strofylia which has been characterised as a “natural paradise”. The area constitutes a magnificent coastal mosaic of habitats with sandy beaches and sand dunes with sea lilies; it is the largest coastal forest in Greece and one of the most important in the Mediterranean.
In the area of Zacharo, one can visit Lake Caiaphas with its thermal baths.
Finally, following in the footsteps of Pausanias (the ancient traveler), one finds Foloe, the forest of the Centaurs,
nymphs, and fairies, with the temples of Pan and Artemis.
